An Interview with Dr. Arthur Freedman

Dr Freedman, please describe the most rewarding experiences you have treating patients?

1. Relieving their pain.
2. Seeing and hearing their appreciation and disbelief for how good their new smiles look.
3. Getting to know each patient. I want to treat friends; not strangers.

When  did you first realize you wanted to become a dentist? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?

As a kid I really liked my dentist. I thought there was something so special about him. He was my role model. In college I found my natural ability in the sciences, and I decided to use that along with my artistic skills to go into dentistry. I never dreamt just how helpful my art background would be for dentistry. And for my art background, I thank my Aunt Judith, a professional artist, who spent many hours training me in painting in her studio.

What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?

I really do love all parts of dentistry. I am grateful to feel this way about my work. But the area that gives me the most satisfaction is to change an average smile into a fabulous one in just 4 weeks.

What will you do when you eventually retire?

First of all, I love doing dentistry, so I won't be retiring for a very long time. With dentistry, it hardly feels like work, rather more like a great hobby that I look forward to doing every day. Besides dentistry I have lots of interests. I was the founder and drummer for a classic rock band: Midlife Crisis. I have won awards for my   painting. I am an avid skier; have a great wife, daughter, son, and dog; count my blessings and gifts in life; and love my profession. I don't worry about staying active and enthused in retirement.
