Says Dr. Freedman:

"A fabulous smile is only possible when the size, shape, position, and color of the teeth match the face. As an artist, I see the entire face and smile. I don't just look at teeth. You probably have seen crowns in people's mouths that don't look quite right. It could be that the crowns are nice, but they just didn't properly harmonize with the rest of the teeth or the person's facial features. The important thing to realize is that when you see well done dentistry in the front of the mouth you don't know it's there. Everything looks natural and perfect."

An interview with Dr. Arthur Freedman

Describe the most rewarding experiences you have treating patients?
1. Relieving their pain.
2. Seeing and hearing their appreciation and disbelief for how good their new smile looks.
3. Getting to know each patient. I want to treat friends; not strangers.

When (your age) did you first realize you wanted to become a dentist? And did you experience anything in particular to motivate you to achieve this prestigious goal?
As a kid I really liked my dentist. I thought there was something so special about him. He was my role model. In college I found my natural ability in the sciences, and I decided to use that along with my artistic skills to go into dentistry. I never dreamt just how helpful my art background would be for dentistry. And for my art background, I thank my Aunt Judith, a professional artist, who spent many hours training me in painting in her studio.

What is your favorite procedure to perform and why?
I really do love all parts of dentistry. I am grateful to feel this way about my work. But the area that gives me the most satisfaction is to change an average smile into a fabulous one in just 3 weeks.

What will you do when you eventually retire?
I have lots of interests. I am the founder and drummer for a classic rock band: Midlife Crisis. I have won awards for my abstract impressionistic painting. I am an avid skier; have a great wife, daughter, son, and dog; count my blessings and gifts in life; and love my profession. I don't worry about staying active and enthused in retirement.
